More than 2,000 rescues may be needed in a matter of days unless motorists in New South Wales stop recklessly driving through floodwaters during the state's historic storm event, authorities have warned. NSW Emergency Services Minister David Elliott said SES crews had received '4,000 distress calls' and made 500 rescues by 3pm on Saturday since the storm began. Hundreds of NSW drivers attempting to tackle flood waters have been rescued by the SES and that number is expected to reach 2000. 'If the trajectory is correct... we're going to be looking at 2,000 flood rescues by Wednesday.' The service responsible for issuing the driving public with updates, Live Traffic NSW, was continually issuing advice to drivers on Saturday.
