The ‘‘hurry call’’ traffic signals were being installed outside and opposite the Dunedin Central Police Station, to allow police vehicles to exit the station quickly in an emergency, NZ Transport Agency senior network manager Chris Harris said. The signals, paid for by the NZTA, would be activated by police and flash red to stop traffic and would be linked to the traffic signals at the nearby Cumberland/St Andrew St intersection. That would provide a ‘‘green wave’’ to clear traffic and allow the police to respond to emergencies without delay, he said. Similar lights were already in place outside the Dunedin Central Fire Station and St John ambulance station.
