Emergency doctors back gun law changes

"I'm amazed that we haven't done it up to this point," Australasian College for Emergency Medicine president-elect Dr John Bonning said. An emergency doctor who has dealt with the aftermath of gunshot wounds is amazed New Zealand didn't tighten up on gun control earlier. Even before the "terrible, unthinkable tragedy" in Christchurch on March 15, emergency physicians would be likely to see gun trauma at least once a week, John Bonning said. He's based at Waikato Hospital, and is also president-elect for the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. "We're completely behind the gun law changes and tightening of the regulations," Bonning said.
