For the first time since the 26/11 attacks, the Elephanta festival will be held at Elephanta caves. Minister for Tourism Jaikumar Rawal informed mediapersons that 29th Elephanta festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday (January 27 and 28). Addressing a press conference at Mantralaya on Wednesday, Rawal informed that Minister for Power Chandrashekhar Bavankule will be visiting Elephanta Caves on Thursday and the first power meter will be installed and tested at Elephanta. The minister said in addition to various musical programmes and competitions during the festival, the government is exploring provisions of staying overnight at Elephanta. He said there are around 1,200 to 1,500 residents who stay on the Elephanta heritage site campus, and his department is in talks with residents regarding home stays.
