Police were granted five days to question each suspect by Senior Judicial Magistrate Nabanita Guha on Sunday, said Ibrahim Khalil, inspector at Char Jabbar Police Station. The suspects include Ruhul Amin, a former union council member and Awami League’s publication secretary at Subornachar, who was recently expelled from the ruling party. A committee comprised of detective branch officials, the officer-in-charge of Char Jabbar Police and the investigator assigned to the case will be questioning the suspects, said SP Sharif. The victim, who was also severely beaten, accused ‘accomplices’ of Ruhul Amin of organising the brutal attack. Although not named in the case, Ruhul Amin and his ‘chief associate’ Hasan Ali Bulu were arrested by police in line with the victim’s testimony.
