(Photo: Varuth Hirunyatheb)The Election Commission (EC) has dismissed as untrue claims that ballots cast in the constitutional referendum on Feb 8 were unsafe, insisting that strict security measures were in place as required by law. In a statement issued on Saturday, the poll body addressed media reports citing comments that referendum ballots were not secure. “The Election Commission affirms that our duty is to ensure that the referendum and the election are conducted honestly, fairly, and in full compliance with the law at every stage,” the statement read. The Election Commission has been facing pressure from numerous quarters to address questions about irregularities and concerns about vote secrecy.
