An elderly man is dead after a fire in his apartment on Shaw Street near King Street West overnight. Fire crews were called to the scene at 24 Shaw Street just after 3 a.m. and were directed to the second floor. "They located a victim who had apparently collapsed by the door," said Platoon Chief Kevin Shaw from the scene early Tuesday morning. Shaw says the man was quickly taken out of the building and although attempts were made to revive him, the victim died at the scene. The fire alarm was working, according to Shaw, and all of the evacuated residents have been allowed back into the apartments.
