Egypt spends LE182M on weather monitoring, early warning systems


CAIRO – 23 June 2022: The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a statement Wednesday revealing it had spent LE182 million on upgrading the weather monitoring and early warning systems to better ensure the safety of aircraft and do research on climate change. The upgrade works included the installation of three weather radars, 30 automated weather stations, and highs-speed computer. The statement added that an applied research project has been carried out to locally design and produce a radiosounde that measures the temperature of the higher layers of the atmosphere. The project was carried out in collaboration with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, and MSA University, having as goal reducing imports of the device. The ministry noted that investments allocated to the civil aviation sector in FY2021/22 is LE9.3 billion.
