CAIRO – 23 June 2022: Egypt’s President of the National Council for Women [NCW] Maya Morsy was elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for 2023-2026. The Egyptian candidate obtained 126 votes in the elections that took place Tuesday, June 23, at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women comprises 23 prominent independent experts with extensive academic and practical experience and qualifications on women's issues. Egypt was keen to present a distinguished candidate to this election to continue its contribution to the advancement of the status of women at the international level by eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls. Moreover, The Permanent Representative of Egypt expressed his deep appreciation to all states that Supported Egypt's candidate during this election.
