Egypt opens 35 new mosques on 1st Friday in Ramadan

So far, the total number of mosques that have been inaugurated in Egypt since September 2020 reached 1,369 mosques, including 1,277 new mosques and 92 others restored, according to statistics of the Ministry of Endowments. The Ministry of Endowments said in a statement last February that a total of LE400 million were spent for the maintenance of ancient mosques in Egypt during the past five years. Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, Egypt has intensified preparations at mosques, in line with the precautionary measures set to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Mass night prayers during Ramadan (Taraweeh) will be permitted in some mosques with the adoption of preventive measures against Coronavirus. Those mosques will be allowed to provide religious lessons and lectures, which will be broadcast via electronic platforms and social media.
