Units at the Israeli settlement of Eldad, south of Bethlehem in the West Bank - Flickr/TrocaireCAIRO – 30 June 2024: Egypt has condemned the decision of the Israeli government to approve the legalization of five settlement outposts in the West Bank and plan for the construction of thousands of new settlement units. “Egypt strongly denounces Israel's exploitation of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip to perpetuate further illegal settlement expansion,” the ministry said. Cairo also denounced continued Israeli attempts to alter the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. The ministry emphasized that a two-state solution serves as the only path to comprehensive and lasting peace. The latest Israeli decision, announced by Israeli hardliner Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has faced international condemnation, including from the European Union.
