Edmonton chapter of Soldiers of Odin renames following UCP pub night

EDMONTON—The Soldiers of Odin’s Edmonton chapter announced they will be changing and rebranding their group following a lengthy controversy that snowballed after their members were photographed with United Conservative Party (UCP) candidates. According to their Facebook page, the local Soldiers of Odin chapter say they have disbanded but also will keep operating under other names. The group’s rebranding comes after UCP candidates were criticized for posing with members of Soldiers of Odin at a constituency pub night in the Edmonton-West Henday riding on Oct. 5. StarMetro reached out to Tyson Hunt, former president of the Soldiers of Odin Edmonton chapter, for comment, but he did not respond in time for publication. The Soldiers of Odin are an anti-immigration group which began in Finland and has a founder who is said to have ties with neo-Nazis.
