Editorial: Treading sorry path to povertySUPPLIED A photo, taken by a teacher at a school in Auckland, of "shoes" that belonged to one of her students. EDITORIAL: There are any number of sad, harrowing, possibly even depressing, stories in the media. More worrying and depressing is imagining the path down which these young, poorly protected feet are pointed. In effect, that's all of us paying a substantial sum towards more health care, support for victims, higher welfare costs and billion-dollar prisons. That's how much it costs to support a person out of jail and keep them on the right path.
