Jury intimidation and interference is a feature of a small number of criminal trials in Ireland, according to a survey of judges and barristers published last March. Specifically, some of the judges expressed concern about intimidation in trials involving gangland figures. The research, carried out by the school of law in University College Dublin, found that while jury interference was not widespread, “it was nevertheless regarded by interviewees as a known feature of a small number of Irish jury trials”.
