Easter celebrations: Midnight mass, family time and feast mark Easter

THANE: Midnight mass , quality time with family and feasting on Easter eggs and traditional delicacies mark Easter Sunday celebrations in the city.Dressed in their best, families in the lake city began the celebration of Easter on Saturday night with the midnight mass. "We spend the 40 days of Lent by fasting in preparation of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter. "While a traditional fare in our hometowns would include a suckling piglet, pork vindaloo and sorpotel, we make a little of the latter these days. Dishes such as chicken xacuti and cafreal are getting increasingly popular these days and we pair that with some vegetable pulao and salads for the Easter feast. We end the meal with Easter eggs made of either marzipan or chocolate and jelly," said Lavina Fernandes, a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church here.
