Earthquake buildings and Reay under spotlight again


CTV engineer Alan Reay is under the spotlight again with Engineering NZ (formerly IPENZ) reopening an investigation, and Reay seeking an Appeal Court ruling that may stop it. A successful judicial review ruling in 2018 by Justice David Collins said Engineering NZ had been wrong in law to abandon its investigation into Reay. Engineering NZ has reopened the Reay investigation - while Reay's appeal against the judicial review is due for hearing on June 20. MONIQUE FORD/STUFF Dr Maan Alkaisi's wife, Dr Maysoon Abbas, was killed in the CTV building collapse in 2011 and he has been campaigning for accountability. Engineering NZ chief executive Susan Freeman-Greene said her members accepted proposed licensing for safety-critical engineering work, but there were questions about plans to certify general competence.
