Back from the Brink: Earning and losing an All Black jersey in one day TARA SHASKEYANDY JACKSON/STUFFRoss Fraser found out he was an All Black while lying in a hospital bed. "I went over and I broke my leg," Fraser said matter-of-factly, 40 years later. That night, lying in hospital with his leg in plaster, the patient next to him tuned in to hear the All Blacks squad named on the radio. During that same fateful game, he knew he was close to gaining a black jersey. Earning and losing his spot in the squad at the same time was bittersweet for Fraser.
