The role of professionals and institutions in fighting corruption and enhancing good corporate governance has featured prominently at the annual lawyers’ conference in Mombasa this week. It is the professionals who provide expert advice to those looters of public coffers or provide the conduits through which funds are siphoned out and even repatriated abroad. However, the nation has lost the moral fabric, with professionals working in cahoots with common fraudsters to rip off public resources. Lawyers and other professionals must fight corruption and other vices afflicting society. Also, we must create strong institutions to fight corruption and give them the latitude to work and produce results.
