EDITORIAL: Dialogue is still the best cure for crisis

Thursday, although it is a public holiday, the Supreme Court and other courts will have to sit to determine a number of suits challenging Thursday’s presidential election. In the past few weeks, the courts have been pretty busy adjudicating over numerous suits challenging elections and we can bet that even after Thursday, more cases will ensue. When the National Super Alliance filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on August 8, which court quashed the result, the verdict was that the electoral commission had failed. PETITIONSWhen many other petitions are questioning the legitimacy of Thursday’s election, the message is that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is perceived to have fallen short of the threshold for conducting proper elections.
