Adam Ivey and his dog, Chase, are all ready for the Waimate Pest Quest. More than 1300 pests are expected to perish in the annual Waimate Pest Quest, but Environment Canterbury worries the shooting will cause the survivors to spread. Each year about 500 wallabies and 800 rabbits are killed as hunting focuses around Waimate, Twizel, Oamaru, and Ashburton. Glenworth said ECan's method of pest control was to bring pest levels down over large areas with poison, before enacting shooting or trapping. The quest will culminate with a weigh-in at the Waimate Rugby Clubrooms between 11.30am and 3pm on Sunday.
