General News of Tuesday, 6 September 2016Source: Myjoyonline.comECG boss could face jail term over workers’ strike - PURC threatensManaging Director of ECG Robert DwamenaThe Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has vowed to sanction staff and management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) after it withdrew its services in protest to plans to privatise the company. The PURC say the failure of the company to insulate consumers against the effects of the worker’s protest is a breach of the law. National Secretary of ECG Senior Staff, Patrick Binyemi, has however maintained that the nationwide suspension of services which commenced last Friday is not a strike. The workers maintain that ECG can be run effectively if political interference in the running of the power distribution company ceases.
