The Election Commission (EC) plans to hold the elections in the two districts along political party lines by December this year. “Upon being approved by the ministry, the EC would publish the gazetted rules,” Senior Assistant Secretary of the EC Secretariat Antara Ghosh told bdnews24.com. The EC official said that the polls schedule would be announced after the gazetted rules were published, however, EC wishes to finish the procedure and start working for holding the city corporation polls to Narayanganj and Comilla by October. EC officials said that they were considering elections in the second half of December keeping in mind the schedules of examinations of schoolgoers. The Commission's election management and coordination wing Assistant Secretary Rajib Ahsan said that the EC was bound to hold the election by Dec 26 in Narayanganj and by Feb 6 in Comilla, however, they preferred holding the two elections on the same day.
