PUTRAJAYA: Fewer than 10% of the 30,000 university students approached by the Election Commission (EC) have actually signed up as voters. Its chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said voter registration programmes were held at public varsities this year and only 2,700 students signed up. He added that another factor was that only those aged 21 years and above can register to vote. What about a person from Kelantan who lives in Johor who has to travel hundreds of kilometres to vote? "That is why we encourage voters to vote at the area where they reside," he explained.
