KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) says it is investigating the death of 43-year-old detainee M. Thanaseelan at the Bukit Sentosa police station lockup in Hulu Selangor on Feb 25. In a statement, the EAIC said it had set up a probe team to, among others, determine whether there was any misconduct, including treatment of a criminal nature, by police officers in the handling of Thanaseelan. It said Thanaseelan was arrested along with two other men at about 2am on Feb 22 on suspicion of having committed housebreaking. He was found unconscious in the lockup at 1.50am on Feb 25 and was confirmed dead by an assistant medical officer on duty, it said. "The probe will be carried out in a comprehensive and transparent manner without prejudice and favouritism," the EAIC said.
