Mitchell owned the Mount Mellick Irish pub in Mt Maunganui with former police officer Brad Shipton, who was subsequently disgraced over a rape conviction. The commission also said it had "concerns" about the poor quality of CCTV images at the pub. The Liquor Licensing Authority shut down the pub for a week over the promo which it branded "unacceptable" and "irresponsible." Mark McKeown 'Leprechaun curling' became a Saturday night event at the Mount Mellick in Mount Maunganui.
