PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has approved the proposal of the Department of Education (DepEd) to allow limited face-to-face classes in areas classified as low-risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Duterte gave the green light to Education Secretary Leonor Briones’ proposal during a meeting on the government’s pandemic response on Monday. Only for those which are considered low risk,” Briones said, referring to areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). Briones cited Siquijor, Dinagat Islands and Siargao as having requested face-to-face classes. Briones said there were some private schools that have requested face-to-face classes although they have not been heard “because their voices have been drowned by other opinions”.
