Dumfries Councilman William A. Murphy was found dead at his home Friday, Mayor Gerald “Jerry” Foreman said Sunday. Police pronounced Murphy dead at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Foreman said in a statement. One of the few Democrats on Town Council, Murphy advocated for transportation improvements, water quality and financial responsibility. At the time, Murphy expressed gratitude for the position, in an email to his council colleagues, according to Potomac Local. I will do my best to represent the citizens and businesses of Dumfries and help to improve the quality of life for all in Virginia’s oldest town.”Chartered in May of 1749, Dumfries touts itself as the oldest town in the commonwealth.
