Independence Day, July 4, was special this year for Reign Weston, who passed her full driver’s licence test the day before. The teenager is one of the first three graduates of Taranaki’s Blue Light Te Ara Tika Driver Licensing Programme (BLTAT), which has celebrated its second anniversary. Reign, 17, now lives in Waitara, but started the programme in 2018 when she was a student at Stratford High School. She was supported by volunteer driver navigator Alan Jamieson, who is Stratford’s deputy mayor, with driving sessions during her school lunch hours.
