Forest and Bird are urging hunting interests to “take a deep breath” and reconsider what DOC’s revised tahr control plan offers. Hunting and conservation interests are still at loggerheads over Department of Conservation’s tahr control programme. GAC general manager Tim Gale acknowledged “strictly, the National Parks Act and the Himalayan Tahr Control Plan (HTCP) enable the removal of bulls from Aoraki/Mt Cook and Westland Tai Poutini National Parks”. “We’re pleased they’re keeping their target of the lowest possible density of tahr in national parks.
