The incident took place in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila’s Meghna New Town neighbourhood around 10:30pm on Monday. According to Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonargaon police station, the woman was the only passenger on a Swadesh Service bus from Dhaka to Munshiganj when the driver decided to try and rape her. However, passengers waiting at the bus stop heard screams, rapidly boarded the bus, and caught the driver—Shamim Mia—red-handed. Previously, on April 8, a bus driver, helper, and conductor allegedly attempted to rape a schoolgirl onboard a bus in Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj.
