Experts say that Bangladeshis spend an estimated Tk300cr annually for kidney transplants abroad, as the procedure is still rather restricted in Bangladesh. In an effort to develop treatment services and to prevent illegal organ trade, on July 17, the Cabinet approved a draft law expanding the list of relatives who can donate organs to a person. It suggests that out of around 120,000 organ transplants in 2014, approximately 12,000 were illegal. Two-thirds of these illegal transplants were of kidneys, followed by liver, heart, lung and pancreas transplants, respectively. But the law creates a barrier.”The expert suggested that the government form a strong monitoring committee to stop illegal organ business.
