PETALING JAYA: A responsible leader can be likened to a doctor, who have to sometimes make the people – or patients – swallow the "bitter pill", says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. "Most times, the people, like most patients, do not like swallowing the bitter pill. He said in many ways, managing a nation required a similar decisive thought process as that of a doctor – where and when necessary. It must also be based on the principle that we are duty bound to defend our nation and our sovereignty," he said. Dr Mahathir also said Malaysia had come a long way since its independence.
