Rather than being a vote for her nationalism or rightwing politics, Le Pen’s stunning result was due to a campaign that targeted France’s cost of living crisis. The current cost of living crisis is a catastrophe for the poor and working class of New Zealand. National has succeeded in getting the cost of living crisis onto the public agenda. The New Zealand Labour Party should take note of that.
