Doubts have been raised on the impact low emission zones (LEZ) can have on lung disease. Earlier this month, Glasgow became the first city in Scotland to enforce its LEZ despite calls from residents to delay it by a year. Similar zones in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee are set to be enforced next year. According to the Daily Mail, the study did record a decline in measures of heart disease and road traffic injuries. While none of the studies showed an increase in respiratory disease associated with LEZs, only two studies found LEZ-associated reductions in any respiratory disease outcomes."
