Doha talks take forward Afghan peace process


Share:ISLAMABAD - The Afghan peace process witnessed hectic diplomatic efforts by Afghanistan’s immediate neighbour Pakistan as well as world powers, to bring peace and push the intra-Afghan talks to the final phase of political settlement. Meanwhile , in another meeting attended by UN special envoy for Afghanistan Jean Arnault, US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, Russian special envoy Zamir Kabalov and Pakistani envoy Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq discussed how the current violence could be halted and the peace process could be pushed forward. According to sources Pakistan made it clear that blame game in the current situation would be counterproductive for peace. The sources said Russian envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kablove pressed the stakeholders not to further delay the peace process. Chairman of Afghan High peace council Abdullah Abdullah concluded his first round of talks with Afghan Taliban and took their demands and proposals which, according to the sources, would be shared with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on his return to Kabul by the weekend.
