The Medical Council could follow up on the issue of private doctors failing to arrange Covid-19 tests for patients who are later confirmed with the virus, Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee hinted. Authorities will meet with doctors this week to iron out details about how a mandatory testing scheme for targeted groups should work, though the legal framework was gazetted on Saturday. Chan said yesterday that there would not be a rigid definition of who should be tested, but "doctors must act according to their professional judgment." But the president of the Hong Kong Medical Association, Gabriel Choi Kin, said the mandatory testing scheme was forced through, with officials announcing it without discussions with doctors. But he said the association still has concerns about compulsory tests as doctors worry sick people may not go to clinics if they do not want to be tested.
