Waikato District Health Board clinical lead for paediatric oncology Dr Deepika Singh said all childhood cancer was rare in New Zealand with only around 150 cases a year. "Of the around 150 cases of [childhood cancer] a year in New Zealand, neuroblastoma makes up only approximately 6 per cent of these," she said.
