Doctors and health boards in the dark about fast-tracked vaccine roll-out

The Government’s new Covid-19 vaccine roll-out is faster than doctors and district health boards anticipated, leaving some either scrambling to re-organise their plan or questioning their role. Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins announced that Kiwis would be divided into four groups as he unveiled the long-awaited schedule for the Pfizer vaccine roll-out on Wednesday afternoon. Managed Isolated and Quarantine (MIQ) and border workers and their families will be vaccinated by the end of March. But doctors want clear answers about the vaccine roll-out and the part they have to play in it, NZ Medical Association’s (NZMA) general practitioner representative Vanessa Weenink said. She said while the new vaccine roll-out seems faster than earlier suggestions of what the time frame might be, she believes GPs can handle it.
