In his speech during a charity drama organized by Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society, Luk said the latest statistics by Hong Kong Cancer Registry has shown that a total of 34,028 new cancer cases were recorded in 2018, up 2.9 percent compared with the figure in 2017. “On average, 93 people were diagnosed with cancer each day,” Luk said, warning the public that cancer is becoming a bigger threat to Hongkongers. But Luk stressed that 40 to 50 percent of cancer can be prevented by improving lifestyle habits, exercise, and diet. “Therefore, it’s important to educate the public and let them understand cancer better,” he said.
