Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy, called on the Department of Energy (DoE) anew on Friday to be transparent in its review of the sale of Shell's stake in the Malampaya gas field project to a company owned by businessman Dennis Uy. Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi recently said they were still evaluating the transaction between Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. (SPEx) and Malampaya Energy, a subsidiary of Uy's Udenna Corp. The DoE has yet to decide whether to approve the stake sale as the entities involved have yet to comply with government requirements. "Whoever steps in to take the place of Shell will supply gas to our homes. Malampaya gas project powers about one in every five homes in Luzon.
