THE printed newspaper is in a hard place. Do young people read the printed newspaper? A survey of 1,000 19-year-olds by The Straits Times and the Singapore University of Social Sciences found that more than half read newspapers. “Nearly one-third of respondents said they read e-newspapers, while a fifth said they read print versions.” That is quite comforting. But if more people started taking the time to read deeply, to think rationally, there may be reason to hope.
