Do the Alley-Oop


The Alley-Oop is a multi-tasking exercise based on a therapeutic sequence I learned from Sarah Court, a Los Angeles-based physical therapist and yoga teacher. I think it has all the drama and complexity of a perfectly executed alley-oop. Stand perpendicular to a wall, about a foot away from the baseboard, with your right hand placed just below shoulder height and right elbow softly bent. Then step your right foot forward five centimetres, keeping its pinky toe-side parallel to the baseboard. Now add a lateral bend to the twist by sweeping your hips into the centre of the room and leaning your upper body the other way, towards the wall.
