District AL leader sent to jail for drug peddling


Shamim Ahmed, metropolitan magistrate of Barisal, ordered his imprisonment after he surrendered before the court. Inspector Jasimuddin, investigation officer of the two drug peddling cases filed against the Awami League leader, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune. The accused include: Zahidur Rahman, police constable Saiful Islam Sani, Zahidul Islam, Kamrul Islam Talukdar, Molla Nasir, Nasir Khan, Md Milon, Shamim Chowdhury, Azizul Huq, Roksana Begum, Syed Morshedur Rahman, Ratna Borua, Zahed Hossain, Abdus Salam, and Sohel Munshi. Following the arrest of police constable Saiful Islam with 100 pieces of yaba, police lodged two separate cases with Barisal Kotwali Police Station against the three. In his confession statement, Zahidul Islam said that the accused Awami Leaguer, Zahidur Rahman, had arranged accommodations for the drug peddlers at the WZPDCL rest house.
