New Delhi: Net direct tax collection during the April-January period of current fiscal stood at ₹7.89 trillion, Parliament was informed on Friday. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said there were 9.92 crore direct taxpayers in Assessment Year 2016-17, which increased to 7.41 crore in 2017-18. Total direct tax collection in 2017-18 stood at ₹10.02 trillion. In April-January period of current fiscal, total direct tax collection stood at ₹7,88,930 crore. In the revised estimates for current fiscal, the government has pegged direct tax collection at ₹12 trillion.
