According to a new survey conducted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Dhaka is the world’s seventh most dangerous megacity for women. Cairo, Egypt, topped the list as the most dangerous for women, while Karachi in Pakistan tied with Congo’s Kinshasa for second place. The results of the survey were based on responses from 20 women’s rights experts in each of the 19 cities tested. All 19 cities are among 31 megacities listed by the UN, and each of the cities was the largest megacity in their respective country. The respondents were asked to rate four aspects of the cities in the questionnaire: Risk of sexual violence against women, access to healthcare, economic opportunities on offer for women and cultural practices regarding women.
