Amid swirling rumours of a possible state of emergency and claims that the Army chief met with the chief justice, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officers have received instructions from the control room to stay on “alert”. On Sunday, several media outlets reported an alleged meeting between m Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, triggering murmurs of an impending emergency declaration. There are many kinds of rumours in circulation, but so far they are just that -- rumours. That is why we’ve been told to stay alert and increase patrols.”Another chief of Gulshan Division police said officers were warned to prevent any surprise processions. This is nothing new.”Asked about the swirling rumours, he responded: “I have no information on that.”
