Devon schoolboy was strangled after bag caught on ski lift, inquest told

Charlotte Pittocho, a teacher who was on the trip, told the inquest in Exeter that she did not hear anyone – either teachers, ski instructors or ski lift staff – tell people to remove rucksacks from their backs and put them on their laps while onboard. “After the incident I saw there were a number of small signs near to the entrance for the ski lifts about rucksacks. They described the queuing for the ski lifts as “manic” and a “free for all”, but Pittocho took a different view. Pittocho told the coroner she wore a backpack every day of the trip and no one told her not to. “I personally didn’t realise it was a massive issue as I wore my backpack on the lift,” she added.
