But a deputy Minister has offered some clarifications. The claim was first reported in December 2019 and was made by Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Minister Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi. Offered the opportunity to respond to the criticisms, Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Minister Dr Ziblim Iddi Barri said on JoyNews’ Upfront Thursday:“She probably was talking about the contribution of the entire tourism sector”. The ‘Year of Return’ initiative was championed by the Ghanaian government to mark the 400th anniversary of the abolition of slave trade.
