With legal challenges exhausted, there should be no further obstacles to the removal of Helmut Oberlander from this country and the removal of a citizenship that never should have been granted. Why did it take so long for successive Canadian governments to recognize the presence of Nazi war criminals and their enablers in Canada? Why, in the case of Helmut Oberlander, has it taken two decades to reach this point? The justice he faces now is far gentler than the slaughter that surrounded him in Melitopol, Krasnodar, Rostov and elsewhere. It is time for Helmut Oberlander to go.
