Delhi: Spike in dengue cases, 53 cases reported in a week

At least 53 fresh cases of dengue were reported by the various municipal corporations in Delhi last week, thus taking the total count of people affected by the diseases to 349, higher than last month in just two weeks of October. The total number of cases of malaria and chikungunya, however, reported by October 13, are 38 and one respectively. While dengue and malaria are showing a significant rise, chikungunya cases have dropped over the weeks. "There is definitely rise in malaria and dengue cases as compared to last month but the situation is definitely better than last year," says Doctor SP Byotra, Head of Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. In most cases, the fever is accompanied by a sore throat, running nose, nasal stuffiness and red eyes.
